What Is DHI Hair Transplant?
DHI is a hair transplant method where grafts are taken one by one, as in FUE, then placed with a special pen that opens the site and inserts the graft in the same step. It gives the doctor direct control over angle and direction. It is not the best choice for every case; the choice follows an assessment.

How does DHI work?
After the grafts are extracted, each graft is loaded into the implanter pen, and the doctor places it directly into the scalp at the required angle and depth. So there is no separate stage of opening channels before the grafts are placed.
DHI compared with FUE
| DHI | FUE | |
|---|---|---|
| Graft extraction | Individual | Individual |
| Opening the planting site | Together with placing the graft, in the same step | In a stage before the grafts are placed |
| Main planting tool | Implanter pen | Fine forceps or an implanter after the channels are opened |

When is DHI considered?
It is usually discussed when you want precise control over direction and density in specific areas, such as the front hairline. The decision depends on your hair type, the size of the empty area, and the number of grafts available, not on the name of the technique alone.
Do not make the name of the technique your only criterion. Ask about the plan for your case: the number of grafts, how they are distributed, and who performs each step.
Questions about DHI
Is DHI better than FUE?
It would be wrong to generalize. Each technique has its uses, and what matters to you is the plan suited to your case and the experience of the person performing it.
Do I need to shave my head for DHI?
That depends on the area and the plan. Ask about it in the consultation, and do not assume a transplant without shaving is possible in every case.
